Waffle Day!

We made waffles for about 30 people! And we had about just as many toppings...they were delicious!!

Santiago!

Lena, Seba and I in front of some whale bones!

All of the seniors who went outside of the body exhibit.

This is what happens to you after 24 hours on a bus!

This was the strangest trip that I have ever taken. We left on a Thursday night to go on a twelve hour bus ride to Santiago. We got there Friday in the morning, then we changed into our uniform and went to the National Museum of Natural History. Then in the afternoon we went to see the body exhibit, and that night we turned around and drove tweleve hours back! We literally went to Santiago for the day!

Chinese food day!

Rotary Meeting aka the day i almost died!

Looks like I wasnt the only bored one, at least I didnt sleep!

At least I got a cute picture with Seba and the Chilean flag out of the ordeal.

I do not know what our Rotary Counselor was thinking when he invited us to this meeting! He rarely invites us to anything, and the one thing he does he chooses this. It was a speaker about a Chilean company called ENAMI. They manufacture and export minerals. The presentation was way over my head, filled with technical words and statistics. To make it even worse, I was the only woman present. And the worst part was that this guy talked for two entire hours!!!

Making Cookies

Sam, Fernanda, and Lena

This picture was a total accident, my finger was not supposed to be the photo!

I made Chocolate Chip cookies for my class and they were a huge hit! The Chileans dont make cookies, so they loved them because they are so different from the packaged kind. Although it is really hard to bake when the ovens dont have temperatures!!

Flat Willy

The only picture that I have with Flat Willy, before he got thrown away!

Get together at my house

Lena (from Austria), me, and Pachy.

Nacho is trying to catch the fish with his hands; he actually got one!

Huasco

My host grandmother (she is the one with the pool!) and I with the Huasco Lighthouse.

Let´s go for a boat ride!!

The cheese store!!!

Vallenar

I took a day trip with my host mom and grandmother to Vallenar and Huasco for the day. It is about two hours south of Copiapó. These pictures are from the river in Vallenar...some river, I know, but at least they have one!

Eucalyptus Tree Trimming!

This was Feb. 19...getting closer!

Lagoon con't

I love this picture!

What looks like snow on the ground in the background is actually salt! There used to be a lagoon there a long time ago but it dried up.

In these last two pictures, you can kind of see all of the different colors of the mountains. There was every type of brown you could imagine, plus reds and pinks, and even blues and greens!

La Laguna Santa Rosa.

The lagoon with mountains in the background.

A little oasis in the valley.

We finally reached the top, at the end of the road is the lagoon.

Standing on the HARD GRASS!

We took a day trip to the Saint Rose Lagoon. We traveled up a mountain side, 4000 meters, and back down in one day. It was the first time that I felt the effect of altitude. When we would get out of the car, we had to walk slowing and everything...for fear of fainting! But it was really beautiful!!

Pan de Azucar 3

Me on the beach (please ignore my badly burned arms)

Waiting for the boat

playing the beach sand ball game we invented. (kind of looks like the evolution of man!)

climbing on the rocks and watching the waves crash.

La isla Pan de Azucar

Penguins!

The fattest sea lion I have ever seen!

Erika and I on the little boat

We took a little boat trip around the island to see the penguins and the sea lions. there were so many!! (please keep in mind this was at the end of january, sorry i am so bad at updating this blog)

Pan de Azucar

On the pier in ChaƱaral, when we went to buy fish

One of the pelicans we saw from the pier.

At the end of January we went on a camping trip to Pan de Azucar National Park for a week. It was really fun! The campsite was right on the beach. I loved listening to waves when falling asleep.
